FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Governor McAuliffe Endorses Delegate Mark Levine for Re-Election
Virginia Governor is Levine’s 37th endorsement by a state or local elected official.
The President's executive order and subsequent actions have left many feeling terrified, and many of you have called and messaged me with your concerns, which I share. With reports of ICE raids on non-criminal immigrants, and with anti-Muslim rhetoric at the top of the Trump administration's agenda, now more than ever is the time for steadfast advocacy of human rights. When we stand for justice in the face of cruelty, we continue in the footsteps of those who were a light in the darkest moments of American history.
When the Democratic Leadership of the House of Delegates asked me to speak out against last week's Executive Order, I spoke straight from the heart.
The Women's March on Washington was exhilarating. It felt like there were at least a million people there. I haven't that many people -- and in such good spirits! -- since President Obama's inauguration. Here's the speech which I delivered to the Virginia contingent!
Grieving relatives and steadfast advocates for common sense gun laws gathered in Capitol Square yesterday, in order to commemorate lost relatives and reaffirm their commitment to the cause.
As our new Congressman Donald McEachin put it, "A moment of silence never saved anyone." The corollary is that a prolonged outcry can. I will continue to support legislation which keeps guns out of the hands of those who shouldn't have them, but Republicans in Virginia don't like to hear this message.
We need to continue to make this issue visible. So let's get to work!
We had an awesome rally supporting the Affordable Care Act here in Alexandria. Thanks to Boyd Walker for organizing the event, which was larger than I could have hoped for. People don't want millions of Americans to lose their access to health care! Check out my speech at the event, below.
I'm proud to announce a grant from Virginia's Department of Criminal Justice Services to add 4 full-time and 2 part-time Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners at Inova Hospital. This will allow them to provide round-the-clock staffing and services for survivors of intimate partner violence and sexual assault in Northern Virginia. Along with many of my colleagues from around the region, I asked for this grant because so many victims had endured long waits or even diversions to hospitals in other regions. Sexual assaults do not come in regular patterns.
